Techiman Eleven Wonders sealed their return to the Ghana Premier League in dramatic fashion, edging Real Tamale United (RTU) 2-1 in a pulsating Division One playoff decider at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.
It was Farouk Ameyaw’s late 89th-minute penalty that sent the Techiman-based club into wild celebrations, confirming their qualification alongside Hohoe United and Swedru All Blacks for next season’s top-flight campaign.
Eleven Wonders, determined to reclaim their Premier League status, started the game brightly, dominating possession and dictating the tempo. Their early pressure paid off when Frank Awere opened the scoring with a stunning left-foot strike that left RTU goalkeeper Abdul Rauf Mahammued rooted to the spot.
Despite trailing, RTU—motivated by their own aspirations for promotion—rallied back and showed attacking intent. Their efforts were rewarded in the second half when referee Selorm Yao Bless awarded a penalty after a foul on the dangerous Jonas Wisdom Manyina. Blabala Bamon coolly converted from the spot in the 64th minute to level the score.
The match intensified as both teams pushed for a winner in what had become a free-flowing, end-to-end contest. RTU, who had started the second half strongly, looked the more likely to snatch victory, but Eleven Wonders remained composed.
With extra time looming, the tide turned once more. Eleven Wonders were awarded a late penalty after a defensive mishap in the RTU box, and Ameyaw made no mistake, sending his effort past Mahammued to snatch victory in the dying minutes.
The heartbreak was clear for RTU players and fans, but the result means Eleven Wonders will now compete in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, capping off a resilient campaign that ended in playoff glory.
For Eleven Wonders, this victory was not just about winning a match—it marked a triumphant return to the elite stage of Ghanaian football.
