Ghana’s power system has regained stability following the full restoration of all generation units at the Akosombo Dam, marking the end of recent disruptions that affected electricity supply across the country.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, confirmed that the facility is now operating at full capacity, enabling it to deliver adequate power to the national grid.
The recovery follows days of intense technical work after a major system setback, with engineers and emergency teams working continuously under difficult conditions to bring the plant back online.
Mr Jinapor described the development as a critical milestone in efforts to stabilise the country’s energy supply, noting that the restoration ensures improved reliability of electricity for both households and businesses.
He commended the coordinated response of key institutions, including the Ghana Grid Company, Volta River Authority, and Electricity Company of Ghana, whose collaboration was instrumental in resolving the crisis.
According to him, the swift restoration demonstrates the resilience and technical capacity within Ghana’s power sector to respond effectively to emergencies.
The return of full operations at Akosombo is expected to ease pressure on the national grid and restore confidence in the country’s energy system following the recent outage.
