The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has dismissed viral online reports claiming that Springfield Energy Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Okyere, has been arrested in Dubai, clarifying that its focus remains on two active investigations involving the company.
In a statement issued on November 2, EOCO described the report by online outlet Novareport as “entirely false,” emphasizing that no arrest or detention of Mr. Okyere has been carried out or directed by the agency.
The Office, however, confirmed that it is handling two separate cases concerning Springfield Energy — one stemming from a petition received against the company, and another involving an ongoing dispute between Springfield Energy and the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).
EOCO noted that its policy requires a thorough investigative process before any arrest is made.
“It is the directive of the leadership that investigations must precede arrests, not the reverse,” the statement read. “The BOST–Springfield matter, in particular, is being prioritized due to its direct impact on BOST’s financial operations and the local economy.”
The Office expressed disappointment over the unverified publication, urging the media to uphold accuracy in reporting sensitive matters.
“It is regrettable that Novareport did not seek clarification before running the false story,” EOCO stated.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and due process, EOCO called on the public to disregard the false claims.
“We are actively pursuing our investigations involving Springfield Energy and remain dedicated to ensuring accountability through lawful procedures,” the release concluded.
