Officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have accompanied the Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, to his former law firm as investigators intensify a probe into alleged financial irregularities at SIC Life Savings & Loans.
The inspection is focused on the examination and collection of documents and other evidence considered relevant to the investigation.
Mr Baffour Awuah is expected to be taken to his residence after the exercise at the law firm for a similar search and evidence-gathering operation.
The MP reported to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, 2026, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea.
His appearance followed an order by the Accra High Court authorising his arrest and permitting EOCO to search for and seize documents relevant to its investigation.
EOCO had told the court that it had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance and feared that relevant documents could be concealed, altered or destroyed.
The warrant was issued after an earlier attempt by EOCO officials to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23.
Dispute over EOCO invitations
EOCO maintains that the MP was invited twice in February 2026 to assist with its investigation but failed to honour the invitations.
Mr Baffour Awuah has disputed that account, saying the invitations were directed at his former law firm, Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah & Partners, which represented SIC Life Savings & Loans.
According to the MP, after he referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament, a representative of the law firm appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30.
He said the representative provided investigators with the information requested, including a written statement.
Investigation into SIC Life transactions
The broader investigation centres on alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.
The allegations being examined include suspected financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering.
No finding of wrongdoing has been established against Mr Baffour Awuah in the ongoing investigation, and the allegations remain subject to the investigative process.
The searches at the former law firm and the MP’s residence form part of EOCO’s evidence-gathering efforts following the court’s issuance of the arrest and search warrant.
