The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted bail to former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Miracles, as investigations into the alleged misappropriation of about GH¢55 million in public funds continue.
Mr Aboagye, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three justified sureties after hours of engagement between his legal team and EOCO officials.
The bail follows his arrest over alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities linked to his tenure at IMCCoD.
EOCO says the former official remains under investigation alongside the committee’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, and other unnamed individuals over suspected offences including conspiracy to steal, stealing, causing financial loss to the state, using public office for profit, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences and money laundering.
According to the anti-graft agency, the investigation was triggered by a petition from the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD, who requested further investigations following a forensic audit covering the period between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.
The alleged financial improprieties involve the suspected diversion and misapplication of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.
Mr Aboagye’s arrest generated political reactions, with supporters of the opposition NPP gathering outside EOCO’s headquarters in Accra to demand his release.
The security presence around the EOCO premises was subsequently reinforced with police, military and national security personnel deployed to maintain law and order as crowds assembled.
The NPP has criticised the arrest, describing it as politically motivated and an attempt to intimidate members of the opposition. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, cautioned that political office is temporary and urged state institutions to act impartially.
EOCO, however, has maintained that the investigation is being conducted strictly within the confines of the law and insisted that all suspects will be accorded due process as the probe continues.
