The Economic and Organised Crime Office (Economic and Organised Crime Office) has granted bail to former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, as investigations into alleged financial irregularities continue.
Mr Jumah was arrested on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, and subsequently granted bail set at GH¢55 million. However, he remains in custody after reportedly failing to meet the stringent bail conditions.
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, confirmed the development, describing the bail terms as extremely difficult to fulfil due to the magnitude of the amount required.
According to him, efforts by the legal team to secure suitable sureties have been unsuccessful, as they are unable to present assets that meet the bail threshold.
He further questioned the justification for the bail amount, arguing that it appears excessive in relation to the allegations under investigation.
Mr Jumah’s arrest followed a security operation at his Kumasi residence, where EOCO officials carried out a search as part of ongoing inquiries into suspected breaches of public financial management regulations during his tenure at GIHOC Distilleries.
