During a live discussion on Metro TV monitored by MyNewsGh, Eugene Boakye Antwi expressed serious concerns over ongoing divisions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stressing that true unity requires full commitment from all party factions.
The conversation highlighted efforts by former Vice President and presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to heal internal rifts. However, some supporters like Jopone have reportedly withdrawn from unity campaigns citing insecurity, while others, including Kjo Safuku, continue to push for reconciliation.
Addressing whether the party is genuinely dedicated to unity, Boakye Antwi affirmed that unity is achievable within the current party structure but warned that those unwilling to unite will be “called out at the proper time.” He emphasized, “Nobody in the party is scared of anyone.”
Reflecting on the impermanence of political power, Boakye Antwi shared his personal experience of losing his parliamentary seat in Subin just five months ago. Despite this setback, he remains a committed party member, highlighting that leadership calls for “balance, fairness, and firmness.”
On allegations that certain party leaders are obstructing unity efforts, Boakye Antwi urged for inclusive dialogue: “You call them into conclaves, talk to them, and as leaders, you must embrace everybody. It is your duty.”
His comments underscore a growing recognition within the NPP that internal cohesion is critical to the party’s future success — but that such cohesion must be built on mutual respect, dialogue, and accountability.
