The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Wontumi, is facing legal action from Exim Bank over an alleged unpaid loan linked to a maize farming project.
According to Wontumi’s lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, the bank has issued a writ of summons, signaling that the dispute is a civil matter rather than a criminal case. Speaking to the media following the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) recent arrest of Wontumi, Appiah Kubi said the legal team will respond to the court documents and mount a defense.
“We have received the writ of summons from Exim Bank and will be responding to it. We consider this a civil issue, and we are confident in our ability to defend the case in court,” he explained.
Sources close to the matter reveal that the loan amounting to $10 million was secured for a large-scale maize farming venture. However, the project was reportedly abandoned, and the funds have yet to be repaid.
This development adds to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Wontumi’s business dealings amid heightened public and legal attention. The case is expected to progress through the courts as both parties prepare their arguments.
