Tensions are running high in the Savannah Region after a violent land dispute in Gbiniyiri left five people dead and at least six others injured, three of them critically.
The clashes, which erupted on Sunday morning, have sparked renewed concerns about recurring land-related violence in the area, particularly in Sawla, Gbiniyiri, and Giniri.
Local authorities confirmed that the violence was triggered by disagreements over a contested parcel of land, escalating quickly into a deadly confrontation.
The tragedy has prompted heightened security intervention, with reinforcement teams from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces deployed to affected communities.
Police leadership has appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid further retaliation, warning that continued unrest could deepen divisions.
Meanwhile, bereaved families and displaced residents are calling for urgent government intervention, insisting that land conflicts in the region have been left unresolved for too long.
“We need peace. Too many lives have been lost over land,” one grieving relative said.
As investigations continue, security analysts argue that lasting solutions will require not only military presence but also mediation by chiefs, opinion leaders, and land authorities.
