Heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding on parts of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus, disrupting academic activities and leaving many students stranded on Thursday morning.
The downpour overwhelmed drainage systems across sections of the university, submerging key roads, bridges and walkways and making movement between halls of residence and lecture venues difficult.
As a result, several students were unable to attend lectures, while others were forced to use longer alternative routes or remain in their hostels due to safety concerns and restricted access to affected areas.
To help manage the situation, university buses have been deployed to ferry students through some of the flooded routes, although taxis and smaller private vehicles have been unable to operate in several parts of the campus.
Security personnel have also been deployed to affected areas to regulate movement and assist in directing traffic to safer routes for students and staff.
The flooding slowed down academic activities considerably during the morning hours, with widespread disruption reported across multiple faculties.
As of Thursday afternoon, university authorities had yet to release an official statement on the extent of the damage or any immediate remedial actions being taken.
Meanwhile, students have renewed calls for urgent and long-term solutions to the recurring flooding challenge on campus, citing concerns about safety, accessibility and the impact on academic work during the rainy season.
