Appiah-Kubi Baidoo, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency in the Western North Region, has announced his resignation from the party, attributing his decision to years of sustained mistreatment directed at him and his family.
In a formal resignation letter addressed to the constituency chairman, Baidoo expressed his frustration over the lack of action from the party leadership despite multiple attempts to resolve the situation. He revealed that despite his written appeals to the party’s National Executives, no tangible changes were made, prompting him to take the difficult decision to step away from the NPP.
“This decision is a result of years of maltreatment directed at both myself and my family. Despite numerous efforts to address this issue, including written appeals to the party’s National Executives, no action has been taken,” Baidoo said.
Baidoo reflected on his two decades of service to the NPP, highlighting his roles as a District Chief Executive and as a three-time parliamentary candidate for the constituency. While he acknowledged the opportunities the party had given him, he noted that the lack of support had made it increasingly difficult to continue his political journey within the NPP.
He also extended a heartfelt apology to his supporters and sympathisers, recognizing that his resignation may be disappointing for many who have supported him over the years. “I sincerely apologize to the thousands of supporters and sympathisers who have stood by me throughout these years. I understand this news will affect many, and for that, I am deeply regretful,” Baidoo added.
In his closing remarks, Baidoo wished the NPP success in its future endeavors, despite his departure, and expressed hope for progress in the party’s efforts in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Baidoo’s resignation comes at a time of growing discontent within the NPP, with several figures within the party citing internal challenges and frustrations. His exit underscores the increasing strain within the party as it gears up for the upcoming national elections.
