Samuel Atta Akyea, lead counsel for former National Signals Bureau Director Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has dismissed recent reports suggesting his client is seeking a plea bargain with the Attorney General’s office as baseless.
Speaking after High Court proceedings on May 26, Mr. Atta Akyea emphasized that neither Adu-Boahene nor his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, also on trial, have made any formal or informal plea bargain requests. He reaffirmed their innocence and commitment to clearing their names through the judicial process.
The Accra High Court, presided over by Justice John Nyadu Nyante, has ordered that no plea bargaining discussions should take place until the prosecution files and serves full disclosure of evidence to the defense. This directive follows a request from the Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, for more time to submit witness statements, citing the temporary unavailability of a key investigator.
The prosecution’s disclosures are now due by June 2, with the case adjourned to June 11 for further proceedings. Atta Akyea urged the public to avoid “trial by media” and allow the courts to determine the outcome based on facts and evidence.
