Former Minister for Railways Development, John Peter Amewu, has been released after being taken in for questioning by National Security operatives on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. His detention was linked to the controversial $2 million Sky Train Project, which has come under scrutiny for failing to materialize.
The investigation into the failed initiative gained momentum after Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, confirmed in a press briefing on Monday, March 24, that the project did not achieve its intended objectives. The government had reportedly committed $2 million to the venture, raising concerns about financial mismanagement.
Authorities have assured the public that the case is being treated with urgency, with Dr. Ayine announcing that prosecutions related to the Sky Train scandal are set to commence by mid-April 2025. He also emphasized that efforts are underway to recover any misappropriated public funds, adding that those implicated are cooperating with investigators.
The Sky Train Project was initially proposed as a solution to Ghana’s urban transportation challenges. However, years after its introduction, no tangible progress was made, prompting calls for accountability. With the investigation progressing, Ghanaians are watching closely to see how the government will handle what has become one of the country’s high-profile corruption cases.
