Music producer and sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, has renewed calls for stronger support and recognition for Ghana’s creative industry, saying professionals in the sector have the capacity to promote the country’s culture and nurture talent if given the opportunity.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, the veteran producer said members of the creative industry could play a key role in national development but often lacked the necessary involvement in policy and national initiatives.
According to him, the sector is rich with talent and expertise that could help project Ghanaian culture globally and discover emerging artistes.
While reflecting on past experiences where he felt overlooked during a previous administration, Mr Mensah said his disappointment had not affected his political stance.
He maintained that he would still support Mahamudu Bawumia in future elections, stressing that his frustrations did not change his political beliefs.
“Oh yes, I’m voting for Dr Bawumia, so there’s no problem,” he said when asked whether his disappointment would influence his voting decision.
Mr Mensah indicated that although he had expected greater recognition and opportunities for creatives, he remained committed to advocating stronger policies that would empower professionals in the creative arts sector.
