The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is widening its search for a new Black Stars head coach, extending the application deadline to October 15, 2026, as it seeks a candidate capable of delivering sustained success for the senior national team.
The extension follows a recommendation from the Black Stars Coach Search Committee, which has called for a broader recruitment process to identify a technically qualified leader whose vision aligns with Ghana’s long-term football ambitions.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the GFA said the process would go beyond receiving applications to include detailed assessments of candidates’ credentials, experience and suitability for the position.
The committee is expected to continue evaluating, shortlisting and interviewing applicants throughout October and November before submitting its final recommendation.
Selection process to go beyond coaching credentials
As part of the expanded search, the committee will conduct background checks and consult football stakeholders and technical experts to help determine the most suitable candidate.
Applicants will be assessed on their technical competence, leadership qualities and ability to meet the high-performance standards expected of the Black Stars head coach.
The recruitment process is intended to ensure that the successful candidate possesses not only the required coaching expertise but also the capacity to establish a clear direction for the national team.
GFA targets long-term stability for Black Stars
The GFA says its objective is to appoint a coach who can establish a distinctive playing identity for the Black Stars while laying the groundwork for consistent performances and long-term progress.
The extension of the deadline provides additional time for prospective candidates to submit their applications as the association seeks to strengthen the selection process.
The final appointment will follow the committee’s assessment and recommendation, with the GFA pursuing a recruitment approach focused on technical quality, leadership and the national team’s broader football objectives.
