Ghana defender Jerome Opoku has described the Black Stars’ 1-0 victory over Panama as a strong and encouraging start to their FIFA World Cup campaign, while insisting the team is focused on winning every remaining group match.
Speaking after making his World Cup debut, Opoku said the result had boosted morale within the squad as preparations intensify for their next group fixture against England.
He noted that the team has adopted a “one game at a time” mentality, with full concentration on each opponent rather than looking too far ahead.
According to him, Ghana’s objective remains consistent across all group matches against Panama, Croatia, and England — to secure maximum points in every game.
“So, we’re all happy, we’re all happy. Every game is another game… we all have the same focus to each game, and we want to get three points,” he said.
Opoku acknowledged the strength of their upcoming opponents, particularly England, but stressed that Ghana also has quality within its squad capable of competing at the highest level.
He said unity and collective effort would be key, adding that the team must replicate the fighting spirit shown in their opening win over Panama.
“Obviously, we know they’ve got good players… but I think as a group we know our qualities too,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, determination and discipline.
He expressed confidence that with proper preparation during the week’s training sessions, Ghana can continue their winning momentum in the tournament.
