The Ghana Police Service has filed a court application to prevent the Generational Rights Protection Society (GRPS) from holding an anti-galamsey demonstration near the Jubilee House in Accra.
The protest, planned by media personalities Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah and Kwame Appiah Kubi, was scheduled for April 28-29, 2025, and intended to pass through key areas, including Liberation Square.
The police raised security concerns, citing intelligence suggesting the event could be infiltrated by hostile elements.
They also highlighted that the organizers had not provided necessary permits or assurances regarding the safety and scale of the protest.
The police are seeking the court’s intervention to either relocate or reschedule the event to ensure public order and safety.
