The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has taken a decisive step toward continental glory by naming a strong provisional squad for the upcoming West Africa Regional Championship, to be held in Nigeria from July 16 to 19, 2025.
The tournament not only offers regional bragging rights but also serves as a crucial qualifier for the 2025 African Championship in Rwanda, making it a high-stakes outing for Ghana’s national table tennis team, the Black Loopers.
The GTTA has called up a blend of experienced players and emerging talent. On the men’s side, top seed Emmanuel Commey leads the charge, joined by Israel Aklie, James Marfo, Francis Antwi, and Godwin Alabi. The women’s roster features seasoned players such as Cynthia Kwabi and Celia Baah-Danso, as well as rising stars Bernice Borquaye, Eva Adom-Amankwaa, and Hilda Agbottah.
Coaching duties for the men’s team will be handled by veteran tactician David Senyo Ahiaba, with Eva Ampah doubling as assistant coach and head of the women’s team.
In preparation for the championship, Team Ghana is set to enter a residential mini-camp designed to sharpen both technical skills and match strategies. The camp is expected to help the players build chemistry and refine game plans before departing for Lagos.
GTTA officials are optimistic about Ghana’s chances, citing the team’s recent domestic performances and the leadership of the experienced coaching staff.
“This is a critical phase for Ghana table tennis, and our athletes are ready to prove themselves on the regional stage,” said a GTTA spokesperson.
With a solid training regimen in place and qualification for the African Championship at stake, all eyes will be on the Black Loopers to deliver a performance that reflects Ghana’s growing stature in the sport.
