Girls in Tarkwa Urged to Build Confidence and Leadership Skills

Girls in Tarkwa have been encouraged to embrace confidence, discipline, and leadership as essential tools for transforming their communities and shaping a brighter future for themselves. This call came during this year’s International Day of the Girl Child celebration, jointly organized by the Golden Tree Foundation, Inspirers and Advocates International, and the Women’s Ministry of the Church of Pentecost, Wassa Nsuta District.

The event, held separately at Saint Mary’s Catholic School and Tarkwa Islamic School, sought to empower female learners to challenge societal limitations and recognize their potential as agents of change. The global commemoration was marked under the theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.”

Representatives from the Golden Tree Foundation, Madam Mawuena Atta and Madam Gloria Addisu Hasford, led interactive sessions that focused on building self-esteem and leadership capacity among the participants. They urged the girls to take their education seriously, remain disciplined, and believe in their ability to lead.

“With a strong foundation in learning, discipline, and leadership, you can become the kind of leaders who transform your communities and inspire others,” Madam Atta told the learners.

Highlighting the importance of the celebration, Madam Ethel Gbogboe, Project Coordinator of Inspirers and Advocates International, said the International Day of the Girl Child serves as a platform to advocate for girls’ rights and draw attention to challenges such as limited access to education, health, and protection.

She emphasized that addressing these issues was vital to achieving gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mrs. Agyeiwaa Yormesor, leader of the Women’s Ministry of the Church of Pentecost, Wassa Nsuta, encouraged the girls to stay grounded in their faith, avoid pre-marital relationships, and stay focused on their ambitions. “Your dreams are valid, but you must remain focused and disciplined to achieve them,” she advised.

As part of the celebration, the organizers distributed stationery and learning materials to support the students in their studies.

The International Day of the Girl Child, marked annually on October 11, highlights the unique challenges facing girls worldwide while celebrating their potential to drive progress in their communities. The Tarkwa event reaffirmed the need for sustained mentorship and investment in the education of girls as a pathway to inclusive national development.
