In the wake of the devastating military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent national figures on August 6, 2025, the Global Evangelical Church (GEC) has called for unity, prayer, and resilience as the country grapples with the loss.
The church, in a heartfelt statement issued by its Moderator, Rt. Rev. P.S. Dzomeku, extended its deepest condolences to the Government, the bereaved families, and the entire nation, emphasizing the need for national solidarity during this dark chapter.
“We mourn with the bereaved families and pray that the Holy Spirit will comfort them,” the statement said, invoking divine strength for the affected. The GEC urged Ghanaians to take refuge in faith, hope, and the comforting power of God to carry the nation through this mourning period.
The victims, who perished when a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi-Akrofuom District, were on a national mission to Obuasi to launch the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme—an initiative to curb illegal mining and promote sustainable livelihoods.
Among the deceased were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment and Science Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six other high-ranking officials and military personnel. Their journey reflected a deep commitment to national service and environmental sustainability.
Describing the fallen as “gallant servants of the land,” the GEC statement prayed for their souls to rest in perfect peace and urged citizens to stand together, not only in grief but in a shared commitment to the ideals for which the victims gave their lives.
The Government has since declared a three-day national mourning period and commenced the laying of flowers at the Jubilee House Ceremonial Garden to honour the memory of the departed.
