The government has directed the Minerals Commission to take immediate administrative control of the Adamus Mine at Salman in the Ellembelle District after affirming the revocation of Adamus Resources’ mining lease.
The decision was announced by Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah during a working visit to the mine, following the completion of a review process that examined the company’s appeal against the earlier revocation.
According to the Minister, a Ministerial Review Committee was established after Adamus Resources petitioned the government over the cancellation of its mining lease. The committee reviewed the company’s concerns but ultimately confirmed most of the violations identified by regulators.
Mr Buah said the review committee’s findings supported the earlier recommendation by the Chief Inspector of Mines and the Minerals Commission that the lease should be revoked.
“Following the report of the Minerals Commission to the Chief Inspector of Mines, and with recommendations of the great violation of the Mining Act and mining regulations, a recommendation for revocation of some mining leases was made,” he said.
He explained that after considering the committee’s report, he had decided to uphold the revocation and instruct the Minerals Commission to immediately assume administrative control of the mine.
“What that means is that the Minerals Commission should, with immediate effect, take administrative control of this mine,” the Minister stated.
The takeover marks a significant regulatory intervention in the mining sector, with the Minerals Commission expected to oversee the management and administration of the mine pending any further government decisions.
Mr Buah said the review process was intended to ensure fairness by giving Adamus Resources the opportunity to have its objections considered before a final determination was made.
The government had earlier revoked the company’s mining lease over alleged breaches of the Mining Act and mining regulations, and the latest decision confirms that the revocation will remain in force.
