The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Friday, July 3, 2026, will be observed as a statutory public holiday in commemoration of Republic Day.
This follows a decision by the President of the Republic of Ghana, issued through an Executive Instrument in line with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601), as amended.
Although Republic Day officially falls on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the government has adjusted the observance to Friday to allow for a nationwide holiday.
The Ministry explained that the shift is intended to ensure a uniform national observance of the day, which marks an important milestone in Ghana’s constitutional history.
A statement signed by the Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, confirmed the new arrangement and urged the public to take note and observe the holiday accordingly.
He emphasised that Friday, July 3, 2026, should be recognised across the country as the official day of celebration and rest in honour of Republic Day.
The announcement means institutions, businesses, and public offices are expected to close on the designated date, as Ghanaians mark the occasion.
