In a major step toward restoring trust and professionalism within Ghana’s football administration, the Government of Ghana has settled all outstanding salary arrears owed to current and former coaches of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
Led by the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, the intervention follows a thorough audit and coordinated effort between agencies, culminating in the release of funds to clear longstanding debts.
Among the beneficiaries of the payments are former head coaches Chris Hughton and C.K. Akonnor, along with assistant coaches George Boateng, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, David Duncan, and Maxwell Konadu. Current head coach Otto Addo has also received all outstanding salaries from October 2024 to March 2025, as have his assistants Joseph Paintsil, Fatawu Dauda, and Joseph Laumann.
“For us, this is more than just settling debts—it’s about restoring dignity to our national team professionals and reinforcing a culture of accountability in Ghanaian sports,” said Minister Adams.
He emphasized that the move demonstrates government’s renewed commitment to ensuring national team staff are treated with the respect they deserve. He also revealed that the Ministry is working toward the establishment of a National Sports Fund to help ensure timely remuneration in the future and avoid similar delays.
The announcement has been welcomed by sports analysts and stakeholders as a positive step toward rebuilding confidence in Ghana’s sports sector and setting a new tone of professionalism and fairness.
