Government has appointed Professor Mark Adom-Asamoah as the first-ever Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, as Ghana prepares to launch the new institution in October 2026.
The appointment positions the former Provost of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology at the helm of the country’s newest specialised university, which is expected to boost Ghana’s capacity in engineering, agriculture, innovation and research.
The $90 million facility, established with funding support from the Government of South Korea, is set to begin academic operations later this year.
Prof. Adom-Asamoah brings more than three decades of academic and leadership experience to the role, having previously served as Acting Pro Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Geo-Engineering, and Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering.
During his tenure as Provost at KNUST’s College of Engineering, he introduced new undergraduate programmes in Industrial Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Marine Engineering, while also expanding postgraduate studies. He also led efforts that secured $17.4 million in World Bank funding for engineering projects focused on infrastructure development, scholarships and academic expansion.
His leadership also helped elevate KNUST’s Technology Consultancy Centre into a UNESCO centre for excellence in manufacturing, innovation and entrepreneurship.
An internationally recognised scholar, Prof. Adom-Asamoah has undertaken research and academic engagements at Arizona State University, Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Bristol. His research has focused on structural engineering, earthquake resilience and sustainable construction solutions.
He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Bristol, a master’s degree from Imperial College London and a First-Class degree from KNUST.
His appointment signals government’s push to position the new Bunso-based university as a major hub for science, technology and agricultural transformation in Ghana.
