A group of importers has petitioned the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to investigate the alleged unauthorised removal, transfer and disappearance of 28 containers from the Tema Port.
In a petition dated September 29, 2026, and addressed to the Commissioner-General of the GRA, the importers said the containers were at various stages of the clearance process when they discovered that some had been moved from the port without their knowledge.
According to the petition, the affected containers were either found empty, reported missing, transferred or moved out of the port without authorisation from their owners.
The importers have therefore called for an urgent and comprehensive investigation to establish how the containers were removed or transferred and identify those responsible.
The petition provided the bill of lading numbers of all 28 containers and outlined their respective statuses as established by the importers.
The matter has also been reported to the Tema Regional Police Command, with the importers indicating that some persons allegedly connected to the incident have been arrested.
The alleged irregularities reportedly came to light after some owners discovered that goods from one of the affected containers were being offloaded into a warehouse near the GHACEM area in Tema.
The development has raised concerns among the affected importers over the security and handling of containers undergoing clearance at the port.
The petitioners said they were prepared to cooperate with the GRA, the Police and other relevant authorities by providing information and assistance to facilitate the investigation.
They are seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding the movement of the 28 containers and the recovery of any goods or containers found to have been removed without the owners’ knowledge.
The petition comes amid allegations of illegal removal and diversion of containers from the Tema Port, although the circumstances surrounding the 28 containers remain subject to investigations by the relevant authorities.
