The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has restored power supply to affected customers following the completion of the first phase of repair works on the damaged Ashaiman section of the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line.
GRIDCo said its engineers carried out preliminary repair works on Sunday, August 16, 2026, allowing electricity supply to resume after the initial intervention.
The company said the next stage of the exercise will involve the replacement of the damaged transmission tower, scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2026.
According to GRIDCo, the tower was damaged in July 2026 following a welding explosion, affecting the integrity of the transmission infrastructure.
The company explained that replacing the affected tower was necessary to restore the full reliability and resilience of the transmission line and ensure the long-term stability of power transmission along the corridor.
GRIDCo said it would work with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to notify communities and customers who could be affected by the scheduled tower replacement.
The advance communication, it said, would provide details of any temporary interruptions in electricity supply that may result from the exercise.
The company appealed to affected customers and communities to cooperate with the engineers during the final phase of the repair works.
GRIDCo expressed appreciation to the public for its patience and understanding as it works to complete the replacement exercise and restore the transmission line to full operational integrity.
