Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has strongly criticized former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, for branding the party’s 2024 election review committee as “bogus.”
Speaking on Joy FM, Haruna Mohammed expressed disappointment in Adwoa Safo’s public remarks, defending the integrity of the committee chaired by Professor Mike Oquaye.
“Professor Mike Oquaye is only the chair of the committee; it consists of other highly respected members. Describing a National Council committee as ‘bogus’ on a public platform is unacceptable,” he stated.
Haruna Mohammed emphasized that the committee was established through a party decision, which members are expected to respect.
“Article 3(5) of our party’s constitution states that we must abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the party. You cannot disregard that by calling a legitimate committee bogus,” he explained.
He also challenged the timing of Adwoa Safo’s criticism, pointing out that the committee’s work was still in its early stages.
“The committee has not even released any report yet. They are still conducting consultations and have just met with former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Let’s allow the process to unfold,” he urged.
Haruna Mohammed stressed that party members have the right to express their views, but he urged for constructive engagement rather than public condemnation of party structures.
His comments highlight the growing tensions within the NPP, as the party grapples with internal disagreements following the 2024 election outcome.
