Editor and journalist of The Herald, Larry Alans Dogbey, has been released on bail after being handed a custodial sentence for contempt of court by an Accra High Court.
Mr. Dogbey was sentenced on Thursday, June 25, 2026, by Justice Isaac Addo after being found guilty of contempt linked to publications relating to an ongoing case involving businessman Kevin Okyere, founder and CEO of Springfield Exploration and Production Limited (SEP), and Petraco SA.
The contempt proceedings stemmed from articles published by The Herald concerning a petition filed by Petraco SA against Mr. Okyere.
According to the court, the journalist violated an interim injunction that barred further commentary or publication on the matter while proceedings were ongoing.
Following the ruling, Mr. Dogbey was taken into custody but has since been granted bail pending further legal processes.
The case has drawn attention in media and legal circles, as it relates to the boundaries of press freedom and compliance with court orders in active judicial proceedings.
