The Member of Parliament for the Hohoe Constituency, Mr Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has officially cut the sod for the construction of two bridges aimed at improving transportation and economic activity in the area.
The projects involve the Wegbe-Akplamafu bridge and the Segbedeme bridge, both of which are expected to significantly ease movement of people and goods within the constituency upon completion.
According to Mr Tsekpo, the Segbedeme bridge serves as a critical link between major farming communities and Hohoe township, while the Wegbe-Akplamafu bridge connects several traditional areas across Hohoe and Kpando constituencies.
He noted that the poor condition of the bridges had previously resulted in casualties, prompting the commitment made during the 2024 election campaign to prioritise their reconstruction.
Mr Tsekpo expressed satisfaction that approval had finally been granted for the projects, which are being funded through the Ghana Road Fund.
Assistant Project Manager of the Ghana Highway Authority, Mr Nicholas Nii Nortey Owuo, said construction would begin with the 36.6-metre Wegbe-Akplamafu bridge and is expected to take a maximum of two months before work shifts to the Segbedeme bridge.
He added that local labour from surrounding communities would be engaged during the execution of the projects.
The Divisional Chief of Gbi Wegbe, Togbe Keh XII, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a long-awaited development that would greatly benefit residents.
He said the community was prepared to support the project with local labour and urged workers to remain committed to ensure timely completion.
A Unit Committee Member for the Ahado Electoral Area, Mr Seth Dzandzo, also expressed gratitude to the government and the MP, noting that the Segbedeme bridge would greatly improve access and stimulate development in surrounding communities.
He said the project would enhance the movement of goods and services and contribute to economic growth in the area.
