Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has opened the door to a possible appointment as head coach of the Black Stars, saying he would be willing to take up the role if the Ghanaian authorities consider him suitable.
Tanko’s comments come at a time when the senior national team is without a substantive head coach following the reported departure of Carlos Queiroz.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the Medeama coach said he would not hesitate to accept the opportunity if it comes with the confidence and backing of the relevant authorities.
“If the Black Stars coaching opportunity comes and the authorities believe I’m the right man for the job, why not?” he said.
The vacant position has generated interest as the Ghana Football Association considers options ahead of the Black Stars’ return to competitive action.
The team is expected to regroup in September as preparations begin for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Tanko has emerged as one of the names linked with the position, alongside Black Stars assistant coach Desmond Ofei, who is also reportedly being considered for the top job.
The Medeama coach brings previous experience within the Black Stars setup, having served as an assistant to former head coach Kwesi Appiah.
His willingness to take charge of the national team could therefore add another experienced local option to the list of potential candidates as the GFA weighs its next move.
For Tanko, however, the decision ultimately rests with the authorities, with the coach indicating that he would only take up the challenge if he is considered the right person and receives the necessary support to succeed.
