Fiorentina have officially ended their agreement with Ghana international Tariq Lamptey through a mutual contract termination, bringing a short and unfortunate chapter in the defender’s career in Italy to a close.
The 25-year-old right-back, who joined the Serie A side from Brighton in a €6 million move last summer on a three-year deal, managed just two appearances for the club—totalling only 25 minutes of playing time.
Lamptey’s stint in Florence was severely disrupted by injury, most notably a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture suffered during his first start for the club against Como on September 21, 2025. He was forced off after 22 minutes and never returned to action for Fiorentina.
His only other appearance came as a late substitute against Napoli, with persistent fitness setbacks preventing him from establishing himself in the squad.
The early termination of his contract, agreed just before the end of the Serie A season, now leaves Lamptey as a free agent. While it allows Fiorentina to reduce their wage commitments, it places the player in a difficult position as he continues rehabilitation and searches for a new club.
The development also casts doubt over his availability for Ghana’s plans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with his prolonged absence from competitive football expected to impact his national team prospects.
