The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has lauded security forces for their swift and effective action in a recent anti-drug operation in Kumasi, which resulted in the arrest of a major suspect linked to narcotics trafficking.
In a statement released on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Mubarak described the operation as a critical blow to the drug trade in the Ashanti region, commending officers for their dedication to protecting the youth from the devastating effects of substance abuse.
“I commend the security agencies for this decisive action. Let’s work together to rid Kumasi of drug trafficking, which is destroying our youth and fueling crime,” the minister said in a social media post.
The operation, led by the Airport District Police Command, resulted in the arrest of 29-year-old Adam Mohamed, who is believed to be a significant player in the local narcotics trade.
During the raid, police recovered large quantities of tramadol, 50 empty cartons used for packaging, and more than GHS 66,000 in cash from Mohamed’s residence, indicating the scale of his operations.
The Interior Minister also urged the public to support the ongoing anti-drug campaign by providing credible information to law enforcement agencies.
“Our fight against drug trafficking cannot succeed without the active support of the public. We must all come together to protect our communities and secure a brighter future for our youth,” Mubarak added.
Authorities have vowed to intensify their crackdown on drug trafficking networks across the country, with a focus on cutting off the supply chain and dismantling criminal organizations involved in the illicit drug trade.
