The President of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), Samuel Afotey Otu, has called for greater investment in technology, staffing and welfare within the judiciary.
Speaking at the launch of the Supreme Court at 150 celebration, Mr Otu said strengthening the justice system would require sustained attention to the people who support the day-to-day operations of the courts.
He noted that while judges often receive public attention for landmark rulings, judicial staff also play an essential role in ensuring that the system functions effectively.
“Behind every landmark judgement is the silent but vital support of hardworking staff who keep the wheels of justice turning,” he said.
Mr Otu stressed that the future of Ghana’s justice system would depend heavily on investments in human resources, innovation and better working conditions.
According to him, improving institutional capacity and expanding the use of technology would help make the courts more efficient and accessible.
He said deeper digital transformation was necessary to speed up processes, improve service delivery and strengthen public confidence in the judiciary.
“As we look into the future, we must continue to invest in people, innovation, and better conditions of service for judicial staff and judges,” he stated.
Mr Otu further argued that maintaining a strong and motivated workforce was essential for preserving the integrity and credibility of the courts.
The remarks formed part of discussions marking the Supreme Court’s 150th anniversary, which is being used as an opportunity to reflect on the evolution of Ghana’s justice system and the reforms needed for the future.
