National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfuah, has accused sections of the Ghanaian media of failing to adequately highlight the economic difficulties facing citizens under the current administration.
She alleged that some media organisations had been compromised by financial inducements and were therefore reluctant to scrutinise the government over what she described as challenges confronting Ghanaians.
Speaking on Peace FM, Madam Gyamfuah said the current situation required greater public attention, arguing that the media had a responsibility to highlight developments affecting the population.
“Things are not going in the right direction, but Ghanaians are silent because they are angry with the NPP,” she said.
She alleged that some media organisations had received financial inducements, which she claimed had affected their willingness to criticise the government.
Madam Gyamfuah also turned her attention to the NPP’s upcoming internal elections, urging delegates to reject former government appointees seeking national party positions.
She attributed the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general election partly to dissatisfaction among party supporters and argued that former appointees should not automatically be considered for leadership positions.
“NDC won with their votes they had in 2020. Our people were angry and that is why I am saying that we should not vote for any former appointee because they are all wicked and selfish people,” she said.
Her comments form part of the ongoing debate within the NPP over the records of former government appointees and the direction of the party ahead of its internal elections.
