Members of the Keta Municipal Assembly in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have unanimously retained Christopher Mensah as the Presiding Member of the Assembly.
Mr Mensah, who represents the Vodza-Adzido Electoral Area, secured all 32 votes cast by assembly members, representing 100 percent of the votes and surpassing the two-thirds majority required for election.
The re-election of Mr Mensah comes after earlier attempts by the Assembly to elect a Presiding Member failed on four consecutive occasions following the inauguration of the Ninth Assembly.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr Mensah thanked members of the Assembly for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work closely with them to promote development in the municipality.
He stressed the importance of unity and collaboration among members to improve the Assembly’s performance and strengthen its development agenda.
Mr Mensah also indicated his intention to reorganise the Assembly’s internal structures to ensure members were well acquainted with the ethics, rules and procedures governing the house.
He appealed to residents in the municipality to support the Assembly with constructive ideas and guidance to help accelerate development.
The Wisdom Seadey, Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, who witnessed the exercise, welcomed the outcome and expressed confidence that the renewed leadership would help address development challenges in the municipality.
He assured that the Assembly, including government appointees, would work together in unity to improve the living conditions of residents.
Mr Seadey added that Mr Mensah’s leadership would play a key role in shaping the development priorities of the municipality.
The Seth Kpodji, Coordinating Director of the Assembly, also urged members to maintain unity and intensify their efforts to improve the performance and effectiveness of the Assembly.
Some Assembly Members who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the election and pledged to support the Presiding Member to ensure progress in the municipality.
Mr Mensah, the oldest and longest-serving Assembly Member with more than eight years of experience, is currently serving his third term and will lead the Assembly for a second consecutive period after contesting the position unopposed.
