Former Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng has ruled out a future in coaching, revealing that his temperament and lack of patience led him to make the decision. Despite being a promising candidate for coaching after his playing days, the 38-year-old has decided to take a different route in the football world.
Boateng’s brief stint with Hertha Berlin in 2021, where he worked under veteran manager Felix Magath, made him realize that coaching wasn’t his calling. “I always wanted to be a coach, but then I discovered I didn’t have enough patience,” Boateng confessed in an interview with Transfer Room.
Instead of following the traditional path of former players into coaching, Boateng has redirected his energy into mentoring young footballers. He recently launched Rookie & Champ, a player agency dedicated to nurturing talent and guiding emerging stars through the early stages of their careers.
Boateng’s decision to become a mentor stems from his own experiences in the game. Having dealt with both good and bad agents throughout his career, he wants to ensure that young players receive the right guidance. “If you’re given the wrong direction, it can sometimes be very, very difficult,” he noted. “I want to help young players, put them on the right path, and keep them grounded.”
By focusing on talent development and offering advice he wishes he had received, Boateng remains closely connected to the sport, channeling his energies into a role that aligns with his strengths.
