Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s strong commitment to revitalizing grassroots sports, with a particular focus on enhancing the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games.
The SESSA Games, a prestigious competition among Ghana’s security services, have long served as a breeding ground for the country’s top athletes across various sporting disciplines. According to Adams, the President sees the games as a key platform for developing local talent and strengthening sports participation at the institutional level.
Adams made these remarks while hosting the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Female Hockey Team, who had come to celebrate their back-to-back victory in the 2025 Africa for Club Championship. He praised their achievement, calling it an inspiration for other sports organizations.
He also commended President Mahama’s restructuring of the Sports Ministry, emphasizing the administration’s focus on expanding sports beyond football.
“The President is very much interested in us bringing back grassroots sports and, in doing so, strengthening the SESSA Games,” Adams stated. “We want to encourage as many institutions as possible to follow GRA’s example by investing in sports development to create more opportunities for young athletes.”
Kofi Adams has consistently emphasized his vision of being a Minister for Sports, not just football, highlighting the need to prioritize all sporting disciplines. His focus includes athletics, hockey, and institutional sports like the SESSA Games to ensure a holistic development of Ghana’s sports sector.
The renewed attention on SESSA Games signals a broader policy push toward talent development and increased participation in competitive sports beyond Ghana’s mainstream leagues.
