The Kofi Asimenu Foundation has reinforced its support for the welfare and development of Ghana’s security services by commissioning a state-of-the-art multi-purpose sports court for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Training Camp at Asutuare.
The facility, officially handed over to the military, is expected to enhance physical training, recreation and mental well-being among soldiers and trainees while promoting teamwork and discipline within the camp.
According to the Foundation, the project is the second major sports infrastructure it has donated to the Ghana Armed Forces, reflecting its long-term commitment to supporting national institutions and youth development.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr Ernest Asimenu said the sports court symbolised the values of discipline, teamwork and patriotism championed by the Foundation’s late founder, Kofi Asimenu.
He explained that the initiative was inspired not only by his father’s lifelong dedication to national service but also by the family’s personal experience following his battle with diabetes before his passing in June 2023.
Dr Asimenu noted that the experience reinforced the importance of healthy living, physical activity and disease prevention, adding that the sports facility would encourage active lifestyles among military personnel while raising awareness about the benefits of regular exercise.
He stressed that promoting physical fitness among members of the Armed Forces contributes to a healthier, stronger and more resilient nation, saying prevention remains one of the most effective tools in combating non-communicable diseases.
Receiving the facility on behalf of the 64 Infantry Regiment, Brigadier General Richard Kainyi Mensah expressed appreciation to the Foundation for the gesture.
He described the sports court as a valuable addition to the training environment, noting that it would improve the welfare of personnel while strengthening the relationship between the military and the communities it serves.
The Kofi Asimenu Foundation said it would continue to invest in initiatives that support education, youth empowerment and national institutions as part of efforts to preserve the legacy of its late founder through impactful community development projects.
