As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) navigates the delicate process of electing a new presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections, former NEIP CEO Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has issued a strong caution against disinformation campaigns that threaten to fracture party unity.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Mr. Nkansah refuted what he described as “false and misleading” claims suggesting he had defected to support Kennedy Agyapong’s camp in the party’s internal contest. The allegations, he said, were not only baseless but deliberately intended to sow confusion.
“This is a clear attempt to distract and divide us at a time when unity is paramount,” he stated, reaffirming his unwavering support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he called the party’s best hope for a strong comeback in 2028.
Mr. Nkansah, who was a key figure in Dr. Bawumia’s 2023 campaign during the NPP’s presidential primaries, condemned what he called “malicious attempts to misrepresent his political loyalty,” and urged fellow members to be vigilant against tactics aimed at destabilizing internal cohesion.
The NPP, still recovering from its loss in the 2024 general elections, is preparing to elect a new flagbearer in the coming months — a process that is already drawing sharp attention and speculation.
Mr. Nkansah’s response highlights the growing sensitivity within the party as factions mobilize support. Political analysts say these types of rumours are often used to test loyalty or provoke instability within rival camps.
Observers warn that internal disunity and misinformation could damage the party’s credibility if left unchecked. In this light, Mr. Nkansah’s call for clarity, loyalty, and discipline within the NPP serves as a reminder of the stakes involved in the leadership race ahead.
