Asante Kotoko’s quest for continental glory begins this weekend when they take on Nigeria’s Kwara United in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors will host the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, September 21, before traveling for the decisive return fixture in Ilorin, Nigeria, on September 28.
With a place in the lucrative group stage at stake, head coach Karim Zito has urged unity among fans, insisting their support will be vital for the team’s chances. “Going into Africa is not easy, so I am pleading with the fans to stay united and support the team,” he said in an interview on Asempa FM.
While Zito admits the ultimate goal is to reach the “money zone” of the competition, he stressed that Kotoko must first overcome Kwara United in what promises to be a challenging tie.
“I played and won Africa, so I will be happy to win this tournament. But it must start with the fans coming together. The target is to get into the money zone, but we must first win the game against Kwara United,” he explained.
For Kotoko, Saturday’s clash is more than just a match—it is the first step in reclaiming their place among Africa’s elite clubs.
