Lightwave eHealth Care Solutions Limited has taken legal action against Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, accusing him of making damaging public statements that it says have hurt its reputation and cost it a major international deal.
In a writ filed at the High Court of Ghana, the company claims the Minister’s remarks between October and November 2025 amounted to malicious falsehood and caused both financial and reputational harm.
At the center of the dispute are allegations the Minister reportedly made about Lightwave’s operations, including claims that the company overstated the number of health facilities it had served, overbilled the government, and hosted Ghana’s electronic medical records outside the country. Lightwave strongly denies these assertions.
The company argues that its contracts with the Ministry of Health Ghana—signed in 2016 and 2019—were fully executed and validated. It adds that even after the expiration of the 2019 agreement in December 2024, it continued to provide services at the Ministry’s request despite delays in payment and the absence of a renewed contract.
According to the suit, the fallout from the Minister’s public comments extended beyond Ghana. Lightwave claims the statements contributed directly to the suspension of a proposed $50 million partnership with the World Bank, dealing a significant blow to its expansion plans.
The company is seeking a court declaration that the statements were false, along with a public retraction and apology from the Minister. It is also demanding damages for economic losses and any additional relief the court may consider appropriate.
Filed on March 25, 2026, the writ requires the Minister to respond within eight days of being served or risk a default judgment.
The case is expected to test the boundaries between public accountability and reputational protection, as it unfolds before the High Court in Accra.
