Liverpool are set to bolster their defensive line with the arrival of Hungary international Milos Kerkez, completing a £40 million transfer from Bournemouth. But beyond the numbers, the move marks a reunion of Hungary’s brightest talents as Kerkez links up with fellow countryman Dominik Szoboszlai at Anfield.
At just 21 years old, Kerkez has become one of Europe’s most promising full-backs. His meteoric rise from Hungarian side Gyor to the Premier League via AC Milan, AZ Alkmaar, and Bournemouth has captured the attention of top clubs. And now, he joins the Premier League champions with ambitions of both domestic and continental glory.
From Bournemouth to Anfield – A Familiar Connection
Kerkez’s arrival follows a standout season at Bournemouth, where he played all 38 Premier League games in 2024–25, contributing two goals and six assists. His performances helped the Cherries finish ninth, their highest-ever league position, underlining his consistency and impact at the top level.
Interestingly, the move also reconnects Kerkez with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously held a similar role at Bournemouth and helped bring the left-back to the club in 2023.
A Hungarian Core at Liverpool
Kerkez will now play alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, who joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2023. The two are close friends off the pitch and integral figures in Hungary’s national setup, with Kerkez earning 23 caps for the senior team.
“To play with Dominik at one of the biggest clubs in the world is a dream,” Kerkez previously said in an interview when asked about a potential future move.
Liverpool’s Transfer Ambitions Continue
Kerkez is part of a major summer revamp at Anfield, with the Reds also finalising a club-record £116 million deal for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. They have already secured Wirtz’s former teammate, Jeremie Frimpong, in a £29.5 million move.
The squad overhaul reflects manager Arne Slot’s intent to build on Liverpool’s recent title-winning season with a mix of youthful dynamism and high-calibre talent.
Bournemouth Move On Swiftly
Bournemouth, meanwhile, have acted quickly to fill the gap left by Kerkez, securing the signing of Adrien Truffert from French side Rennes as his replacement.
