President John Dramani Mahama has embarked on a high-level visit to France, where he is set to play a leading role in global health discussions while also advancing Ghana’s diplomatic and economic interests.
At the heart of the visit is Mahama’s participation in the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon, a major international gathering focused on improving global health systems, food sustainability, and coordinated responses to emerging health threats. The Ghanaian leader is co-chairing the summit’s High-Level Segment alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, underscoring Ghana’s growing influence in global health policy conversations.
Mahama is also scheduled to deliver two keynote speeches, including one at a strategic session on global health architecture co-led by Macron and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of the World Health Organization. The discussions are expected to shape reforms in international health cooperation and produce a political declaration aimed at strengthening global responses to health crises.
Beyond the summit, the visit carries significant diplomatic weight. Mahama will hold bilateral talks with Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, where both leaders will explore expanded collaboration in sectors such as education, trade, investment, and regional security.
The Ghanaian president will also engage with Gérard Larcher at the French Senate, signaling efforts to deepen parliamentary and institutional ties between the two nations.
Mahama’s visit highlights not only Ghana’s commitment to global health leadership—particularly through initiatives like the Accra Reset Initiative—but also its strategic push to strengthen international partnerships that support national development priorities.
He is expected back in Accra following the engagements.
