John Dramani Mahama will today begin a high-profile visit to France, combining global health diplomacy with strategic bilateral talks aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
The visit, at the invitation of Emmanuel Macron, will see President Mahama play a leading role at the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon, where he is expected to co-chair a high-level session alongside the French leader.
The summit brings together global decision-makers to address pressing issues including health systems reform, food security, and coordinated responses to emerging health threats. President Mahama is also scheduled to deliver two keynote speeches, outlining Ghana’s stance on global health security and broader international health reforms.
A key highlight of the trip will be his participation in discussions alongside Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, as global leaders work toward a political declaration to enhance international health cooperation.
Beyond the summit, the visit is expected to reinforce diplomatic and economic ties. President Mahama will travel to Paris for bilateral talks with President Macron at the Élysée Palace, focusing on expanding collaboration in health, education, trade, investment, and regional security.
He is also scheduled to meet Gérard Larcher as part of efforts to deepen parliamentary and institutional relations between Ghana and France.
The Presidency says the visit underscores Ghana’s growing role in global health leadership while advancing its broader foreign policy and development agenda.
