President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of the Ashanti Region that his government will complete all economically viable infrastructure projects in the area — regardless of whether they were initiated by previous administrations.
Speaking at a durbar in Kumasi during his post-election Thank-You Tour on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the President emphasized a new era of inclusivity and national development equity. He said the era of partisan neglect in infrastructure allocation must end.
“No region will be left behind because of political differences. The Ashanti Region is too important to Ghana’s future to be sidelined,” President Mahama declared.
Highlighting the administration’s development strategy, President Mahama listed several strategic projects earmarked for completion under his tenure. These include the Afari Military Hospital, the KNUST Medical Centre, the Suame Interchange, Kejetia Market Phase II, Sewua Hospital, and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s long-delayed maternity block. The Krofrom and Mampongteng markets will also be completed, he added.
In a significant policy announcement, the President revealed that a new Accra-Kumasi Expressway would be constructed to enhance inter-city connectivity and road safety. He also addressed the Boankra Inland Port Project, indicating that an audit was currently underway and would guide next steps toward full completion.
“These projects are critical to unlocking our Big Push Agenda and restoring Ashanti’s role as a key driver of national development,” he said.
Beyond infrastructure, President Mahama addressed broader national priorities, including economic recovery, employment, and environmental protection. He reaffirmed his commitment to fighting illegal mining and announced that Assembly Members across the country are now receiving regular stipends — a move aimed at strengthening local governance.
The President’s remarks drew support from both traditional and religious leaders present at the event. Representing the Asantehene, Nana Boakye Agyeman, Asafohene, commended the President’s outreach and urged him to ensure Asanteman receives its fair share of national resources. He also called for greater involvement of chiefs in national development planning.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, praised the visible transformation the region had seen in recent months and highlighted the President’s focus on policy continuity and accountability.
Also lending his voice, Bishop Joseph Amo, who led a delegation from the clergy, lauded the President’s 24-hour economy initiative, describing it as a “visionary policy that aligns with Ghana’s development needs,” and offered prayers for its success.
President Mahama concluded with a call for unity and civic responsibility, saying, “Let’s work together — traditional leaders, citizens, business people, and government — to restore dignity, create opportunities, and build a future of hope for all Ghanaians.”
