Former President John Dramani Mahama has announced that nursing trainees across the country will begin receiving their long-awaited allowances starting next month, bringing relief to students who have faced months of financial uncertainty.
Speaking at a durbar of chiefs in Nalerigu during his Thank You Tour of the North East Region, Mahama disclosed that all administrative and financial processes for the disbursement have been completed.
“The arrangements are in place. I can confidently say that by next month, your ‘allawa’ will start hitting your accounts,” Mahama declared, prompting loud applause and cheers from the crowd.
The former president underscored his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of healthcare trainees and restoring dignity to the nursing profession. He described the payment of allowances as a key part of that vision, emphasizing the need for consistent support to those in training.
Mahama’s assurance has rekindled optimism among nursing trainees who have been anxiously awaiting financial relief. With July now set as the payment timeline, many view the announcement as a timely intervention to ease their economic burden.
The move is also being interpreted as part of Mahama’s broader strategy to re-engage youth and professional groups, particularly in the education and health sectors, as he positions himself for another term in office.
