President John Dramani Mahama has reinforced his administration’s stance on traditional family values, declaring his unwavering support for the Anti-LGBTQ Bill while addressing religious leaders in Accra on Friday, February 28, 2025.
In his speech, Mahama emphasized that his government upholds the belief that only two genders exist—male and female—and that marriage should be exclusively between a man and a woman. His remarks were met with approval from the clergy, who have been vocal advocates for the bill.
Beyond reaffirming his position, the President revealed that discussions with the Speaker of Parliament were underway to revive the Proper Family Values Bill, which seeks to criminalize LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana. The bill was previously passed by Parliament but failed to receive presidential assent under the previous administration.
Economic Recovery at the Forefront
While addressing the moral and social concerns surrounding the bill, Mahama also laid out his broader vision for national development, with a strong emphasis on economic recovery. He assured Ghanaians of his administration’s commitment to stabilizing the economy, tackling inflation, and ensuring job creation.
“Our priority remains economic stability. We will work to restore confidence in our financial system, strengthen the currency, and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive,” Mahama stated.
He further highlighted the importance of modernizing agriculture as a pathway to economic self-sufficiency, pledging increased investment in agro-processing and farming techniques to boost food security.
“As a nation, we must be able to feed ourselves. That is why agriculture remains a key pillar in our development agenda,” he added.
Mahama’s address underscored his administration’s dual focus on upholding cultural values while implementing policies aimed at fostering economic growth and national progress.
