President John Dramani Mahama has signalled his readiness to make further changes within his administration as he steps up efforts to improve performance, coordination and accountability across government.
The President has directed Ministers, Chief Executives, board members and other political appointees to demonstrate greater discipline and adherence to established administrative procedures, warning that conduct that weakens government cohesion will not be tolerated.
The directive comes amid a series of changes to the government’s leadership structures, including the recent reshuffling of Ministers, the dissolution of some governing boards and plans for changes involving Chief Executives of state institutions.
In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, the Presidency said the changes were part of President Mahama’s broader effort to strengthen institutional leadership and ensure that government appointees remained focused on the administration’s policies and priorities.
The President expects all appointees to perform their duties with integrity, diligence and humility while respecting the authority and procedures governing public institutions.
The Presidency said the performance of appointees across the various sectors would continue to be assessed, suggesting that additional changes could be made where necessary.
“The President will take any further action necessary to safeguard the integrity, effectiveness and responsiveness of his Administration,” the statement said.
The warning places renewed emphasis on performance and discipline at a time when the government is reorganising several institutions and leadership positions.
The Presidency cautioned that actions that undermine institutional authority, government cohesion or the effective implementation of policy would attract the necessary response.
It reminded political appointees that public office was a privilege and an opportunity to serve the Ghanaian people, rather than a position for personal interest.
The President consequently urged Ministers, Chief Executives, board members and other appointees to cooperate with the ongoing reorganisation and remain committed to delivering the government’s mandate.
The latest directive signals that the administration’s leadership changes are not limited to filling vacancies or restructuring institutions, but are also intended to ensure that officials meet the standards of performance and conduct expected by the President.
