A man accused of unlawfully possessing firearms and causing the death of Naa Borley Nelson, also known as Naa Gamu, a queen mother of the Ga Adangme Muslim Union, has been remanded into police custody.
Samuel Adjei appeared before the Teshie District Court but was not allowed to enter a plea. The court ordered that he remain in custody until his next appearance on March 12, allowing the police time to continue investigations and prepare a duplicate docket for the Attorney General’s review.
The tragic incident took place during Naa Borley Nelson’s coronation ceremony in Nungua, Accra, when a musket being fired as part of the traditional celebrations discharged unexpectedly. The shot struck her in the thigh, resulting in fatal injuries.
Authorities are now working to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting and whether it was accidental or due to negligence. The case remains under investigation as the nation mourns the loss of the queen mother.
