Swift vigilance by security personnel and a passing eyewitness helped foil a burglary at the Ministry of Finance’s Annex “E” Treasury Block, leading to the arrest and conviction of a 26-year-old driver’s mate, Isaac Peprah, also known as Happiness.
The incident occurred at dawn on August 17, 2025, when Peprah scaled the Ministry’s fence, broke into offices, and made away with laptops, a Bluetooth speaker, and a table-top fridge. His escape, however, was short-lived after a jogger spotted him acting suspiciously and raised the alarm.
With the support of Customs officer Emmanuel Teye, Peprah was pursued and arrested near the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment. The laptops, abandoned in his bag during the chase, were recovered, while the fridge he had hidden in the Ministry’s car park was later retrieved after he confessed.
The Adabraka District Court sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stealing. Two additional charges of unlawful entry and causing damage were withdrawn.
Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, who prosecuted the case, confirmed that all stolen items had been returned to the Ministry.
Mahmud Ahmed, Acting Head of Security at the Ministry, praised the swift response from both the public and security agencies, noting that the collaboration ensured state property was recovered intact.
Authorities say the incident underscores the importance of citizen vigilance in safeguarding public assets, especially at critical state institutions.
